Who is the Counselor? (KINDER)Lesson Overview

Week of 9/9/2024-9/13/2024 KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM GUIDANCE

In my first lesson to Kindergarten, I introduced myself to students. I used the beautiful book The Rabbit LIstened by Cori Doerfield to explain about how we sometimes need someone to really hear us when we are full of different feelings.

We talked about the role of feelings in how we make choices every day. In class we did several activities that helped us with self control, body control and making sure that we are safe in class.

I also explained BARK—our school motto to our newest Hounds and special guest Hunter came by to help them with learning to follow directions. Overall we had a wonderful week!

AT Home Practice Idea: Students learned our school motto of Be Safe, Act Responsibly, Respect Self and Others, and Kindness is the Key. Use moments when your child needs some reminder of one of the at home rules. Explain how the rule follows one of the school expectations. Example: “We respect self and others at home by picking up our laundry.” Linking expectations at school to home helps to reinforce new behaviors. Noticing and praising your child for following the behavior expectations at home helps to increase the likelihood that the positive behavior will continue.
